De Chile, de Dulce y de Manteca (Of chili, sweet and lard) refers to a mixed variety of flavors. As a young girl in Mexico there were street vendors that would sell tamales out of a cart and call out these three flavors of chili, sweet and lard. This body of work speaks to the variety of people and their circumstances made of different colors and flavors. Our humanity is varied and mixed creating the complex fabric of our human experience. The theme of the human condition has been present in my work and continues to be important to me.
